patterned by nature

"Patterned by Nature was commissioned by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences for the newly built Nature Research Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.  A collaboration between Plebian Design, Hypersonic Engineering & Design, and Sosolimited.  Abstraction of nature's infinite complexity into patterns through the scientific process, and through our perceptions." sosolimited via notcot

branching morphogenesis

"Branching Morphogenesis explores fundamental processes in living systems and their potential application in architecture. The project investigates part-to-whole relationships revealed during the generation of branched structures formed in real-time by interacting lung endothelial cells placed within a 3D matrix environment." from http://labstudio.org/arselectronica.html

tea party

"The event was held at Ozone Living Design Center in Shinjuku, Tokyo, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of English tea brand Lipton's presence in Japan. We designed a cafe based on the Mad Hatter's Tea Party in Alice in Wonderland."  Lipton Tea Exhibit, via Nendo  http://www.nendo.jp/en/works/detail.php?y=2006&t=77

refract

"REFRACT is designed to embrace and deploy the phenomena of light. Triangulated planar surfaces of acrylic modules are the receivers of reflection and refraction from precise folds, which respond to light in an entirely different, more concentrated manner. The transparent acrylic has the capability of existing as both seen and unseen, dependent upon the presence of light."  Adam Anderson, via notcot.org  http://www.adameanderson.com/refract/

listening room

"The 20 foot shipping container was filled with CNC-cut layers of corrugated fiberboard and compressed-polyester foam panels, which cut out noise and vibration from the outside while the occupant listened to classical music. Fifteen speakers were oriented towards the visitor’s seat in order to create what the designers hoped would be a “spatial sensation that is in-between the notion of the concert hall and the I-pod headphone.” via deezeen

modii

"modii is a parametrically designed interactive installation by students of Delft University of Technology. modii's goal as an interactive environment is to create a balance in the number of people between the two sides of the installation." via http://www.projectmodii.com/
